Artist Statement

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

My work as an artist is mainly driven by personal experience. I find inspiration in nature, earthly materials, and though the connections I make in relationship to others. I like to create works with the right balance of authenticity and expression. I approach new projects with a sense of excitement and anticipation. I like to create a visual connection with the viewer to an experience they can identify with in their own lives. 

I appreciate classic concepts and clean lines. I much prefer a timeless expression to momentary fads. I am not an elitist, but come from humble means and want to express a vulnerability and integrity out of my own world view. 

One of my most preferred methods is photography. I enjoy capturing images of nature, people, and my dog Jack. I have recently tried sketching. In the future, I hope to do more digital designing for communications such as logos and brochures as part of an in-house communications department for a church or non-profit. 

Just as I value a sense of genuineness in my personal creations, I want my professional work to adequately encapsulate the message being communicated. Brands need to find ways to connect with customers immediately, as well as communicate their vision and purpose in few words and images. Coming up with exactly the right words and image to communicate a concept is fascinating.
